Sichuan demands immunity to all poultry

Southwest China's Sichuan Province demanded 100 percent of immunity density for poultry in it by Jan.20, according to an emergency meeting for bird flu control held here Monday.

Dazhu County, the last bird flu outbreak site in the province last December, has been taking strict measures to prevent the epidemic from spreading.

An over-all immunity to poultry was required at the meeting by Qu Kunning, director of the provincial livestock and foodstuff bureau. The latest statistics showed that over 80 percent of poultry in most areas of the province has gained immunity. However, the figure is less than 30 percent in some cities and counties.

Poultry along with the products in the bird flu affected areas should be strictly prohibited from shipping out, according to Chen Wenguang, vice governor of the province.

The provincial government also demanded an improved warning plan and effective measures to prevent the epidemic from spreading to human beings.

No human cases have been reported, according to the local government.
