U.S. & WORLD NEWS: 100 Americans die in Iraq during October

At least 80 people were killed or found dead in Iraq on Monday, including 33 victims of a bomb attack on laborers lined up to find a days work in Baghdad's Sadr city Shiite slum. The U.S. military announced the death of the 100th service member killed in combat this month.
In other news:

Israel plans to expand its military offensive in the Gaza Strip and will decide soon on the what kind of operation it will conduct, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday.

President George W. Bush was to campaign in Georgia and Texas Monday as he kicked off the last full week of Campaign '06.

Howling winds slicing across the Northeast over the weekend tore into trees and power lines, leaving thousands of customers still without power Monday. The storm contributed to at least two deaths and hampered the search for a man who fell off a cruise ship.
